Technical Information

1. Parameters and file formats of the publications created within the framework of the SDL
Original documents digitized into the following resources:

A. Library documents:
a) archival TIFF files (documentary recording of document pages, for perpetual preservation, resolution depending on the type of document: 300, 400, 600 dpi), with lossless compression,
b) production files of JPEG format, corrected (cropped, straightened, tonally corrected) with low level of compression, as files for compression and creation of presentation files,
c) presentation files PDF, HC-PDF, JPEG, DjVu (retained as a second historical format),
d) JP2 presentation files for IIIF streaming presentation, allowing scaling of documents of significant size, with high saturation of details - without visual loss of quality.
Note: most of the published text files in the WYBC have a text layer from the text recognition (OCR) process. Due to the massive, automatic nature of OCR (no manual correction), recognition accuracy ranges from 40% (fractal printed documents published in the SBC before 2023) to 100% (documents created as electronic). Manuscripts do not have a recognized text layer - they are only images of the record.
The ŚBC team is constantly working on improving the quality of recognition (including launching an OCR dedicated to fractures) and gradually replacing presentation files with more accurate OCR.

B. 3D objects
a) archive RAW files (documentary registration of objects, for perpetual preservation),
b) presentation files - aggregations composed of JPG files and structural metadata.

C. AV recordings
a) MOV video archive files,
b) archive files of WAV audio,
c) AV presentation files (master recordings and trailers) MP4,
d) MP3 audio presentation files.
AV recordings include text transcription of audio.

The Silesian Digital Library website is also available on mobile devices thanks to an interface that adjusts to the size of the display (responsive interface). Once the site is open, there is an option to download and save the SDL access application.
