• Description:
  Based on a large body of literature, disability sport has been going through several developmental phases for several decades and has evolved from rehabilitative and recreational to competitive forms of sport. With the above message, this monograph is addressed to all people with a keen interest in and participation in the development of this sport. It is aimed at coaches, instructors, and physical education teachers who will find original issues and new concepts in disability sport, and practical information. It consists of three complementary parts that examine aspects across a broad spectrum of physical, sensory, and intellectual disabilities, as well as in child, adolescent, and adult settings. In the first part, the Reader will find information from the area of disability sport in the health dimension. This part discusses the health benefits and support for athletes with intellectual disabilities, the effects of training on lung function, the internal compensation mechanisms in Para athletes, the body balance of physically active boys with visual impairment, and the health benefits in canoeists with neurodegenerative diseases. Part two is filled with content on the social dimensions of disability sport. It was devoted to the optimization of coaching activity for life activation of athletes with disabilities, the goals of wheelchair rugby training and issues of infrahumanization of athletes with dysfunctions, and international legal regulations regarding doping and other forms of performance enhancement. A knowledge management model to support task performance in Paralympic sport and socio-cultural aspects of Paralympic Games participants was also presented. The third part covers issues of training for athletes with various dysfunctions and educating coaches. Another important topic is to show the phenomenon of doping in Paralympic sport based on the results of doping control.
